The grandeur of the Mughal Era was like no other. Known for their architectural accomplishments, cultural contributions and their undeniable fascination with beauty amongst other things, one can’t help but wonder how the lives of the Royalty at the time used to be. While recreating most of their experiences in today’s modern world may not be possible, there still are a few pleasures of the past that one can live through, even today.

Possibly the most notable element of the Mughal Empire that has stood the test of time, the Taj Mahal has outlasted the history books themselves. A sight to behold at any point of the day, it stands tall and proud under the sultry Sun. As the evenings set in, however, the charm intensifies beyond measure. Words don’t do justice to its captivating beauty, but we’ll give it a try nevertheless.

Brought to life by the piercing moonlight, the Taj Mahal illuminates the night sky. Shining through against the twinkling stars, its aura is reminiscent of the ‘Crown of Light’ or ‘Nurtaj’ in the Urdu language. A humble rendition of this transcendent sight, our ‘Nurtaj’ collection celebrates the eternal charm of Indigo.

The process of creating Indigo dye starts with soaking Indigo plant bundles in water for long periods of time. This helps extract the vibrant dye. In the meantime, the fabric is block-printed with mud resist before finally being dipped into the dye to absorb the colour.

Once the fabric has been dyed, the areas with the mud application continue to retain its original colour, while the rest of the sheet takes on the soothing Indigo tone. You can read more about the types of Indigo block-printing here.

Encapsulating this tranquil beauty of Indigo, our Classic Kurtas from this collection come tailored in comfortable silhouettes. Wear these Kurtas with the matching Cotton Pants and Dupattas to complete the look. To browse through styles from our new collection, click here.
